After reaching a selling point of 44 million Blu-ray discs in 2009, the world is only moving further. Hence, computer experts have estimated that the number will only go higher, as it will probably reach 300 million by 2012. The Blu-ray player was something pretty inaccessible for individuals at first because using a DVD still seemed so much easier. In addition, its cost is higher compared to a DVD player. Nevertheless, technology has made people forget about outrageous costs, and thus the Blu-ray player is a device we all want to have.

Nowadays the Blue disc and its format war are making the device accessible, not to mention more useful than a DVD or a CD. In order to use a Blu-ray disc you need to have a compatible device with a similar format. Usually, there are special players on the market, as well new laptops and computers attuned with blue lasers. The main difference between a DVD and a Blu-ray disc is the readability format. The first works with red lasers, while the second with blue. However, the population doesn’t care about technical stuff since they only want to see visible improvements.

In addition, there are certain advantages that will make you forget about the old-fashioned DVD. To begin with, the Blue disc comes along with a storage capacity of nearly 25GB, on one side. Hence, you have a total capacity of 50GB where you can put movies and videos. A DVD on the other hand, features only 8GB on both sizes. The truth is, a DVD is cheaper; however, you must understand that the quality and the benefits of a Blue disc will make the product worth the price.

The high demand of the Blue disc is directly connected to the video quality. Featuring high-definition (HD) movies and videos, everyone will be more satisfied. A DVD provides good quality, but these days we all thrive to have great quality when it comes to watching movies on our computers. Due to its popularity, the Blue disc could soon enough eliminate the DVD from the open market. In spite of the global crisis, individuals still haven’t stopped buying expensive technology and the average purchase rate of a player is still going up.

The famous Blockbuster movie rental chain has declared that the demand for Blue discs has significantly exceeded the DVD. 70% of their customers are now drawn by Blue discs, while only 30% are still choosing the old-fashioned DVD. At this point, the war between DVD and Blu-ray is slightly compared to the war between the floppy disc and the memory stick a few years back. The winner will always be the most advanced device that’s also better in quality.

Overall, the demand for Blu-ray is constantly rising. Until a new device that’s better in quality and size comes along, the Blu-ray wins. High definition viewing is elementary for people who love watching movies. Hence, a runner-up to the 3D format is definitely the famous Blue disc.
